Students got an immersive experience in the theatrical arts and enhanced their appreciation of the English language. Everyone had fun and enjoyed the play.
Pathlight hosted Superhero Me for a lively dance performance on Wednesday, 28 February 2018. Students and educators alike were up on their feet, enthusiastically learning the various dance steps. There was even an interactive segment in which the performers mingled with our students and personally guided their movements. Some lucky students even had the opportunity to join the performers for the finale on stage!
On Friday, 5 January 2018, the Pathlight Harmonica group performed at “The Dreams Theatre (梦之夜)”, at PARKROYAL on Beach Road. Organisers of this private event raised funds for music enrichment lessons for individuals with special needs. Our students did a harmonica accompaniment for Ms Wee Wei Ling, Executive Director of Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant, during her rendition of a Chinese evergreen tune, “茉莉花 (Jasmine Flower)”. They also performed the English classic, “You Are My Sunshine” with the restaurant’s associates.
Last night, Pathlight staff were delighted to join the annual Teck Ghee Lunar New Year Dinner, hosted by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Everyone had an enjoyable time catching up with community partners and residents, while viewing the special performances.
Our Primary 2 students went on an English Learning Journey to watch a play by the Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT) on Friday, 2 February 2018.
“What The Ladybird Heard” is based on an award-winning book by Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks, and is aimed at teaching children, animal sounds in a fun way. Students had fun and enjoyed the play, actively participating in the songs and movements.
The festive spirit resonated throughout Pathlight School, as students and staff celebrated the Lunar New Year with a variety of class activities and performances across our two campuses. Everyone had a joyous time playing games and singing along to festive songs.
From all of us at ARC and Pathlight, we wish all Chinese families a blessed and prosperous Lunar New Year!
On Wednesday, 7 February 2018, Pathlight’s students in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Club went on a Learning Journey to the Enabling Village. There, they learned more about how to design assistive devices to suit the needs of elderly people in Singapore. Under the friendly, patient guidance of staff working for Tech Enable, our students learned about design for stability, leg space and maneuverability, such as how the three-wheeled scooter was designed with more leg space as compared to the four-wheeled one! Students then completed a worksheet and were given an opportunity to try out some assistive devices such as wheelchairs and scooters. It was an enriching experience that may just give rise to a brilliant young future inventor!
Our Primary 2 students visited the art exhibition, “Is Anyone Home”, at National Museum on 29 Jan. Organised by the community arts movement, Superhero Me, as part of Singapore Art Week, it features artworks created by children who are socially or economically disadvantaged, including those with special needs. Our students interacted with and immersed themselves in the exhibits, gaining some insight into the challenges of some of their peers.
At the end, they had the opportunity to create their own dream home using various craft materials, proving that art can truly be a universal language for understanding.
It was an enriching and enlightening learning experience for everyone!
Molly, the mobile library bus operated by the National Library Board (NLB), was on-site at Pathlight School yesterday! This initiative aims to promote reading and lifelong learning for schoolchildren. This year, they introduced two new workshops, Music & Drama Storytelling Performance and Hand Puppet Storytelling & Crafts sessions to our Upper Primary School students.
Through these workshops, our students enjoyed stories told through music, puppets and dramatisations that promote positive values. They also had the opportunity to create their own hand puppets and told stories with them. It was a fun-filled learning experience for everyone!
