Building Better Tomorrows

Building Better Tomorrows

Our Secondary 2 Express and Normal Academic Pathlighters visited the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) in May, as part of the School’s transition support to expose students to possible post-Secondary pathways and prepare them for work in future.

Pathlighters were introduced to the building and construction industry, as well as the diverse scope that BCA oversees. They gained a better understanding of Singapore’s concrete environment, the four stages of a building’s life cycle (Planning, Design, Construction and Inspection & Maintenance) and the many functions and roles involved in the design and construction of a building.

Pathlighters also learnt about the importance of developing buildings with resilient designs, to improve the safety of its residents. They even tried out simulations of how the visually impaired or wheelchair bound would navigate the environment. The visit sparked some interest in engineering and building design and construction, and whatever they eventually decide to pursue, we hope Pathlighters pursue their interests to the fullest of their potential!
