Parents of Primary 1 to 5 students attended a workshop by Dr Yeap Ban Har last Wednesday. An internationally renowned speaker in the area of mathematics education, Dr Yeap spoke about alternative methods of the proper ways of learning the basics of math, sharing a typical two-day course’s worth of material succinctly in 90 minutes. Topics covered included array-based visualisation strategies, number bonds, and other such strategies that develop visualisation, metacognition and number sense.
Throughout the highly engaging session, Dr Yeap fielded numerous questions posed by parents. Participants eventually left the workshop armed with valuable tips and tools to guide their children in performing more complex mathematical tasks.
