To engage students in Applied Learning beyond the classroom, our Secondary 3 and 4 students attended a chemistry workshop, “Perfume Factory”, at the Singapore Science Centre on Sunday, 19 October 2017.

 At the workshop, students first explored common methods to extract essential oil from flowers, including cold expression. They then learnt about the different characteristics of notes in perfume-making. Finally, they created ester, blended perfumes, and even developed their own creations which they brought home! We are sure our students gained a deeper understanding of how important and relevant organic chemistry is in our daily lives.
