Four of our Secondary School students participated in the 2017 Bishan Park Secondary School (BPSS) Visual Arts Competition, along with students from 18 other Secondary Schools. They are Alena Chia (Secondary 3 Baobab), Ethan Chua (Secondary 2 Ginkgo), Nathanael Low (Secondary 2 Poplar) and Caleb Goh (Secondary 3 Baobab).
The competition theme is, "The Singapore Spirit – Inclusiveness and Resilience”. Under the guidance of their Art Teacher, Ms Pat Lai (HOD of Art/Secondary), the students began working on their art entries in March. They brainstormed on their concepts, and shared the inspiration behind their works with a written artist statement for each of their submissions.
Alena Chia from Secondary 3 Baobab class won the ‘Glow’ award in the Upper Secondary category with her artwork, ‘Singapore Great Food’. Her artpiece featured a wide range of Singapore delicacies, including chicken rice and Indian rojak, on a big family dining table.
Ethan Chua’s colourful illustration, entitled ‘Singapore Waves, Together We Swim as One’, won the hearts of the judges too. It was selected to be exhibited under the ‘Identity’ Category.
The exhibition featuring all winning entries opened on 14 July, with Mrs Ng Ai Lin, Zonal Director (Schools), South, MOE/School Division as Guest-of-Honour. Our Principal, Ms Linda Kho and Senior Vice-Principal, Ms Loy Sheau Mei, as well as parents of the awardees, attended the event to show support to the students. The exhibition closed on 17 July.
Congratulations to Alena for winning the ‘Glow’ award, and all other participants for a job well done!
