English Festival 2017

Pathlight School organised its inaugural English Language Festival 2017 for all Primary School students. The 4-day festival, which began on 6 March 2017, Monday through 9 March 2017, Thursday saw students and teachers meaningfully engaged in a variety of activities that promote English Language learning.

From Spelling Bee to hands-on activities such as station games, students were provided with opportunities to learn the English Language in fun and creative ways. To further promote creative learning, students and teachers were encouraged to dress up as their favourite ficitional character for storytelling sessions and participate in a Fashion Parade. A Book Fair was also held during the festival where students can purchase English books from a wide selection of books available. They learnt to pick out their favourite book and make their own purchase for it.

Overall, it was a fun and fruitful learning experience for our students.

On 3 March 2017, our Secondary School and Vocational Track students gathered at Bishan Park for a cross country run. The objective of the run was to teach students the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through exercise. It also teaches students to have perseverance and resilience in completing a 2.4km run and instills values such as respect, friendship and excellence in them. Principal, Ms Linda Kho and Senior Vice-Principal, Ms Loy were also present to flag off the run.

On 28 February 2017, our Alumnus Sean Bay, along with his mother and younger sister, presented a cheque from the proceeds of his solo art exhibition held last year at Orchard Central from 25 to 28 November to Pathlight School as a token of appreciation for the school's effort in nurturing Sean during his education journey.

Sean delivered a speech to pay special tribute to the Artist Development Programme and thanked all the teachers and Ms Loy who have helped him throughout his years in Pathlight School. His mother, Mrs Bay, also shared on Sean’s challenging journey as a child with autism adapting to many changes while growing up. She thanked all Pathlight educators and leaders for their dedications and guidance that helped Sean to develop into the young man that he is today.

On 23 February 2017, Pathlight School hosted a special visit from the Stephen Petronio Company, a contemporary dance group that has performed on various international stages.

The US Embassy Singapore had organised a workshop for our Senior Dance Talent Group students with the dancers from Stephen Petronio Compan, which was nothing less than fruitful. At the end of the activity, our students also presented gifts of appreciation from Pathlight to their new friends. On behalf of the school, we would like to thank and wish the dancers all the best in their future endeavours.

On 18 November 2016, our Primary School Performing Arts Group students visited Ang Mo Kio – Thye Hua Kwan Hospital for their Community Involvement Project (CIP). They put up an hour-long performance that includes Ukulele, Choir and Dance items for the elderly patients and staff. The performance brought joy to the folks at the hospital as they clapped and sang along to the tunes with our students. Through this meaningful experience, students learnt the value of compassion and contributing back to society.
